Project Description:

The project aimed at reinforcing the Government’s capacity to take appropriate action to control environmental pollution and to promote investment. In order to solve all these weaknesses, the specific objectives of the project were to:

  • Support Montenegro to improve its environmental infrastructure through the establishment of a Project Implementation Unit (PIU), responsible for the coordination and management of the international funded programmes;
  • Provide technical assistance to the MEPP in the capacity to attract external sources of investment funding for the maintenance of existing and the construction of new environmental infrastructures;
  • Improve the capacity of environmental management administrations by the establishment of an EPA;
  • Provide training to the staff from the MEPP and the PIU to perform their mandate.
