The purpose of the contract is to provide supervision services for the construction of the sewerage systems in Velipoja and Shkodra, two of the main municipalities in Albania.
The Regional Office for SEE of EPTISA has recently been awarded a 700,000 Euro contract in Albania, aiming to provide supervision services during the construction of the sewerage systems in the municipalities of Velipoja and Shkodra.
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the health and environmental conditions in these coastal regions of Albania through the construction of an adequate and sustainable sewerage infrastructure, while encouraging economic growth through improved services.
In Albania, access to water supply has increased from 50 to 78 percent since 1990 and access to sewerage has increased from 25 to 50 percent. Despite the fact that water services have improved, the lack of system maintenance and repairs has resulted in excessive water losses, estimated to be in average of about 69%.
Thanks to this new contract, financed under the IPA 2007 Program for Albania, a team of experts from EPTISA will carry out the supervision during the construction works of the wastewater treatment plant and sewerage systems in Velipoja and the sewerage systems in Shkodra. The Consortium will implement the project over a period of 38 months, starting from September 2010.
This project represent a clear indicator of the consolidation of EPTISA as one of the leading environmental engineering service providers in Southeast Europe, with relevant projects under implementation in the fields of water, wastewater and solid waste infrastructure in all the countries in the region, including Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, the FYR of Macedonia, Kosovo under UN 1244, Serbia, Romania and Turkey.
