The project aims to raising the general awareness on key issues related to the sustainable development and to the environmental protection, contributing to the improvement of the living conditions of the Montenegrin society and to the promotion of the overall image of Montenegro as an ecological state.
Montenegro has been one of the first states in the world to officially commit itself to the future sustainable development. This pledge was solemnly proclaimed by the Parliament in 1991. It is set down in the first Article of the Constitution and has been underpinned by relevant strategy papers, including the National Strategy of Sustainable Development and the Environment Law, in which it is underlined the nation’s status as an ‘ecological state’.
In connection with these efforts to preserve the natural wonders of Montenegro, EPTISA has recently been awarded with the project“Raising Environmental Awareness in Montenegro”, funded by the EU’s Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) with 485,000 EURO and managed by the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro.
The main project beneficiaries are the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism (MSDT), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
A team of international and local experts of EPTISA will provide technical assistance to these institutions in establishing an efficient and sustainable system for the implementation of activities on environmental awareness. The team will also prepare and deliver environmental awareness campaigns, trainings and workshops for the business sector, NGOs, media, and local communities, and willdesign and implement education activities on environmental issues targeting students in all municipalities in the country.
For years, EPTISA has been involved in similar activities across the Western Balkans. This has provided us with a deep understanding of the relevant sector and gives us a valuable knowledge of the organisation and the needs of the main project beneficiaries. At the same time, this has equipped our expert teams with avery good understanding of all the requirements to implement the very demanding EU environmental standards.
